Get a new iPhone over the holidays? Make sure it’s not toast. Or it is TOAST. Or whatever.

I always love when Portland gets its geeky mixed up with its crafty and builds beautiful, functional bling for high tech gadgetry.

The latest effort to cross my desk is TOAST, a custom wood veneer for the back of your iPhone 4. And by custom, they mean you can get as creative as you like—one off or otherwise.

With real wood veneers from Toast you can add both grip and protection to the iPhone 4 and 4S without adding to the phone’s size or covering up the elegant design. The texture of the wood grain makes it much less slippery and you can toss your iPhone on a table without worrying about scratching the back glass.

And, just as importantly, the veneer enhances the look of the iPhone by adding warm natural materials and allowing you to personalize your phone. Who wants their iPhone to look exactly like the other 50 million of them out there?

But there’s a catch.

You see, TOAST is a Kickstarter project. Meaning? Meaning they’re working to raise money from backers to pull it off. But have no fear, gentle reader. You can help.

So head on over to the TOAST project and kick in a few bucks. Because how you care for your phone says a lot about you.

  1. We made it! Thank you to everyone who supported to Toast and helped spread the word. Did you miss the kickstarter fundraising but still want a Toast cover? Head over to http://www.toastmade.com where you can place an order. Thanks!

  4. Yes, Kelly, you’re right. I’ve covered Grove a few times. However, Grove’s iPhone cover is a case, not a veneer.

There’s room for both. And more.

  5. There’s already a local company making bamboo iPhone 4 cases: http://grovemade.com and they make a similar bamboo back to the one above for laptops.
