10+ Portland startups you should be following on Github [Updated]
We always like to brag about Portland being the de facto hub of open source. Or maybe that’s just me. I do like to use “de facto hub.”
In any case… every once in awhile, it’s nice to highlight what folks are actually doing in that open sourcey regard. So I was poking around Github to see who was doing what and compiled a quick list of startups with open repositories you should peruse.
I mean, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Here are some folks I found:
- AppFog
- Cloudability
- Code Scouts
- The Clymb
- Concrete5
- Discogs
- Geoloqi
- Janrain
- Lunar/Theory
- Lytics
- Mapbox
- Meridian
- New Relic
- OpenSourcery
- Paydici
- Puppet Labs
- ShopIgniter
- Simple
- Urban Airship
- Bonus: Wieden+Kennedy
And I’m more than happy to add more companies to the list. Just leave a comment. And I’ll revise the post.

Too bad GitHub doesn’t make it possible to follow at the organization/company level. But, this is a great jumping off point to explore their developers and projects.
Woah! W+K has a Github account!
Don’t forget about New Relic! http://github.com/newrelic
Don’t forget Simple Finance! https://github.com/SimpleFinance
You could add MapBox to the list. It’s mostly DC-based, but I’m here holding down the iOS fort and we have 90 public repositories on GitHub.

The Clymb VendScreen
Added up to here (except for VendScreen, because they don’t have any public repos). Please keep them coming!
Add OpenSourcery! It’s one of the top Portland-based web development shops working in Drupal, an open source web development software. https://github.com/opensourcery
