We are seeking a Mid-level/Senior QA automation engineer who will ensure the quality of various Merced Systems products, by creating test plans and test cases, executing manual and automated tests, implementing test automation systems and test cases and assisting the entire organization throughout the product development lifecycle.

The successful QA Engineer will:
• Aggressively champion a total team product quality approach within a small team, multi-product agile development group.
• Take a leadership role in the creation and implementation of test automation for assigned products; leveraging internal and open source tools or build from scratch as is practical in the implementation of the automation strategy.
• Work closely with QA and Development team members to design and build function test automation frameworks and tests which integrate and extend existing QA automation capabilities.
• Work closely with Development and Customer Support teams to facilitate resolution of product issues and incorporate changes into automated tests to ensure future regression is prevented.
• Participates in reviewing, refining and expanding existing automation test suites.
• Contribute ideas toward the enhancement and/or modification of existing test automation framework designs in support new products.
• Contribute to overall testing efforts (manual and automated testing) for all major, minor, and maintenance releases for any product as assigned.
• Review product documentation and contributes corrections and updates.
• Enter and track product defects and work with development engineering to process issues to completion.
• Evaluates and implements new tools and frameworks for QA.
• Contribute toward enhancing the Merced Systems QA process.
• Contribute to the entire Development process and the role of QA in it, including participation in design and review activities, and postmortems.
• Assume ownership of assigned QA initiatives and work closely with the QA Manager to monitor and ensure completion of QA milestones.
• Train/Mentor more junior members of the team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience
• 7 to 10+ years of enterprise commercial software product QA experience that includes 5+ years of leadership of automated testing strategy and implementation using open source and internally developed tools and frameworks.
• Knowledge and experience of Automated tools such as QTP, Selenium, Silk-Segue
• Knowledge and experience around Lean Agile testing using tools such as FIT, Fitnesse
• Strong working knowledge of key technologies and tools including: J2EE web applications such as Tomcat, WebSphere or WebLogic; databases such as Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, MySql; middleware such as JMS, MQSeries or ActiveMQ and basic protocols and interface standards such as HTTP, HTTPS, TCP/IP, LDAP and Active Directory.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, and a capacity for attending to details
• Must have sound practical knowledge of and experience with QA methodologies exercised within an agile development framework.
• Ability to document problems in re-creatable steps clearly and accurately.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills in a technical environment.
• Past experience in a commercial software company is strongly desired.
