Janrain, leader in user management solutions for the social web, is looking for a Technical Product Manager to join its product team. The Technical Product Manager will guide the development of new features and capabilities for Janrain’s software services and product offerings. This includes staying up to date on the market, relevant technologies and the competition; rapid prototyping; creating product requirements documents; and coordinating product releases with engineering. Additional responsibilities may include building working demos and code samples to assist in the Sales process. This position requires operating daily at both the strategic and tactical levels, and close interaction with engineering, sales and other marketing functions.

As Technical Product Manager, you will guide the development team to build products from existing ideas, and help to develop new ideas based on your vision, industry experience and your contact with customers and developers. You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. You must enjoy spending time in the market to understand their problems, and find innovative solutions for the broader market. You must have a passion for the social web.

The Technical Product Manager will be a member of the marketing team and report to the director of product management.

Responsibilities:

- Contribute to Janrain’s product roadmap by staying up to date on new technologies and features released by various identity providers and social networks, and the competition.
- May be required to develop prototypes before making recommendations for additions to roadmap
- Gather and craft product requirements and feature specifications
- Oversee user experience for Janrain’s products and services
- Work closely with engineering to rationalize the product roadmap and focus on high impact functionality based on customer requirements, competitive offerings and market trends
- Lead cross-functional product and feature launch processes and ensure effective communication within the organization
- Articulate the value proposition of Janrain’s solutions within and outside the company
- Assist in the development of customer facing technical documentation
- Serve as the Janrain technical and product contact for identity providers and social networks
- Provide input on customer communications and feature announcements to marketing
- Communicating competitive and market information effectively within the organization
- Serve as product expert on Sales and Partnership calls on an as needed basis
- May be required to represent Janrain on developer forums and technology meet ups

Qualifications:

- 3-5 years experience developing or delivering consumer internet products and technologies
- Experience with the Software as a Service delivery model
- Deep knowledge of the social media space and technologies supporting the category
- Previous product management experience a plus
- Previous product development experience is a must
- Demonstrated ability to be both strategic and hands-on; experience working at an early stage start-up company is a plus
- Ability to work in an agile environment with rapid product innovation and iteration
- Self-starter who is highly organized, learns quickly, and is a team player.
- Exceptional written and verbal skills
- Passion for customers and track record of success analyzing product and market dynamics
- Demonstrated ability to gather information from many sources (engineers, professional services, sales, executives and customers) and organize it into effective product requirements

Technical Qualifications:

- BA or BS in Computer Science or Engineering
- Experience coding using web protocols and APIs and JavaScript
- Knowledge of development frameworks for web and mobile is a plus
- Good with rapid prototyping using Perl, Python or Ruby On Rails framework
- Knowledge of HTML5 is a plus
- Familiarity with OpenID and OAuth a huge plus
