Platform Engineer

Elemental builds its industry-leading video processing software to utilize proven, robust open-source systems for maximum reliability. The Platform Engineer will ensure that we achieve the maximum amount of performance from the hardware and software platforms that we ship our software on.

As a Platform Engineer, you will:
• Own the base operating system configurations that Elemental products ship on
• Develop a framework to ensure that all field systems upgrade smoothly to the latest Elemental software
• Understand that your code is the first experience that a customer has with our software
• Investigate, benchmark, and implement kernel-level changes that enhance the performance of Elemental products
• Translate system configuration tasks into user-friendly interfaces that apply to multiple platforms

The ideal candidate for this position will have:
• A deep understanding of multiple distributions of Linux and their package management
functionality
• An understanding of how to build and install custom Linux kernels and drivers
• Ruby expertise (preferably with Rails) or another dynamic programming language
• An understanding of various networking protocols including HTTP, SSH, and SNMP

Additional strengths include:
• Successful implementation of a configuration management system such as Puppet or Chef
• Experience developing software for cloud-based applications
• Understanding of high-availability architectures in enterprise applications
• Experience with open-source audio and video tools such as VLC and FFMPEG
