Description
Senior UX Designer
San Francisco, CA -or- Portland, OR
Are you excited about designing slick and intuitive interactive experiences for customers who want to make sense of their data? Did you raise your hands and rejoice when HTML5 and JavaScript raised the bar for web application design? Do you find yourself browsing FlowingData in the evening with complete abandon? If so, you should probably work with us!
New Relic is a web-based product that does SaaS app performance monitoring. Our goal is to make it dead simple for developers to monitor their apps in real-time, and give them the data they need to make decisions that help them run their apps faster and better.
As a UX designer at New Relic, you'll help us better understand our users' needs, define the visual and interactive UI on new product initiatives, as well as help maintain the design integrity of our existing core product suite.
You'll be working closely with other Design Team members, the Product Team, and our Executive Team.
To achieve in this mission (should you choose to accept it), you'll likely be conducting a healthy dose of UX design activities:
Whiteboard concepting and brainstorming
Conducting user research with potential or existing customers
Producing wireframes or mock-ups to evaluate and evolve potential designs
Working closely with engineers to prototype, and provide continued guidance as a project evolves
Usability testing
A few things we also ask:
Keeping the design consistent as the product suite grows
Tracking usability issues and helping the product team prioritize improvements
Working with the rest of the design team on high level design vision, strategy, process.
Bring some "design thinking" to the rest of us!
Some skills that stand out:
Have a strong portfolio of software product designs showing not just the end result, but your design process for getting there.
Experience designing data visualizations
Experience creating UX deliverables like scenarios, mockups, wireframes and slinging UI in Photoshop or equivalent tools
Comfortable setting up and running usability tests
College degree in design or related field, or equivalent experience
Nice to have:
Some graphic design / visual design skills
Some web development skills
A little about us
We are passionate, possibly even crazy, about application performance management (APM). Our mission is to make web applications run better, to make the internet more productive, and to make life easier for developers and devops. We are turning the APM marketplace upside down by providing SaaS products that deliver high-value functionality previously only available through enterprise software. We are well above 25,000 customers. And with your help we’ll get to 10x that number.
New Relic is a San Francisco Best Places to Work 2012 award winner, a Top 100 OnDemand Company, Best of SaaS (THINKStrategies), Top 100 Coolest Cloud Computing (CRN); 10 Cloud Management Companies to Watch (NetworkWorld); the list of accolades goes on. More important, we provide challenging work, opportunities to learn, high quality teammates, a standard-setting product, and a company on the move.
Our offices are in the tech-rich urban centers of Portland and San Francisco, with easy commute access and a plethora of good eats. We provide competitive compensation (including pre-IPO stock options) and big-company benefits (medical, dental, etc) -- all while maintaining the energy, agility and fun of a start-up.
New Relic is most decidedly an equal opportunity employer. We want applicants of diverse background and hire without regard to race, color, gender, religion, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, disability, age, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by law.
