Our home office is located in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon with easy access to all the amenities the central city has to offer. If you have a penchant for big dreams, the engine to get there and a passion for doing it the right way, you owe it to yourself to check out Elemental.
The role of the Software Project Manager is to plan, execute, and complete projects according to deadlines and project requirements. This includes requesting resources and coordinating the efforts of team members, in order to deliver projects on schedule. The Software Project Manager will coordinate with Marketing and Systems Engineering on deliverables, timelines and milestones for releases, as well as make key architectural decisions on implementations.
As a Software Project Manager, you will:
Successfully lead 2 product feature patches within the first 6 months and 2-3 releases per quarter thereafter
Direct engineers as part of each release, and ensure root causes are understood and issues are resolved. Identify and solve at least 2 root problems per release.
Effectively apply Elemental’s methodology and enforce project standards
Coordinate and track deliverables for multiple simultaneous projects
The successful implementation of this position requires, at a minimum:
BS in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
5+ years of professional software development experience
Prior product development management experience including direct customer interactions
Prior experience developing high-performance, multi-threaded, system-level software on Linux systems
Solid understanding of Ruby or Ruby on Rails, C++, and SQL
Ability to travel domestically on occasion
Additional strengths include experience with:
Audio and video codecs and encoding devices
Open source video tools and APIs, such as FFMPEG or mediainfo
Developing software for distributed or clustered systems
In addition to mastery of the requisite technical skills, we expect you to be:
Innovative: you generate new and creative approaches to problems
Honest, with integrity: you don’t cut corners ethically. You earn trust and maintain confidences, do what is right (not just what is politically expedient) and speak plainly and truthfully
Customer Centric: Elemental’s customers are some of the largest media & entertainment properties on the planet. We focus on being professional, responsive, and a great partner to these firms.
Self-directed: you take high-level descriptions, boil them down to a technical task list and then execute it, all with minimal oversight
Team-oriented: you share information frequently and effectively, and are willing and able to collaborate
Flexible: rapid change, steep learning curves and tight deadlines are taken as challenges, not obstacles
Ambitious: you come to work every day with the desire to learn and excel
A comprehensive thinker: you see the big picture and at the same time, focus on the part. You understand the architecture and can project how adding a feature will affect the outcome
Dedicated: of your own volition, you contribute above and beyond the strict requirements of the job because you want to see the team and company succeed
