# SXSW 2008: Silicon Forest contingent making the sojourn to Austin

It’s hard to believe that the annual geek pilgrimage to Austin, Texas, is almost upon us. That’s right, it’s time for [SXSW](http://sxsw.com "SXSW") [2008](http://2008.sxsw.com "SXSW 2008"). The geeky portion of the event, SXSW interactive, begins on Friday, March 7 and runs until Tuesday, March 11.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the number of Portland and Silicon Forest folks who make the journey down to the event on a regular basis. This year is no different. There’s even a [breakfast get-together for Oregon folks organized by Portland Web Innovators](http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/399349/ "SXSW Portland Web Innovators breakfast").

With all of the folks in attendance, I thought it might be valuable to have a list of what companies and what folks will be down in Austin. (If you don’t appear and would like to be listed, please comment, and I’ll work on updating the list.)

Silicon Forest companies down at SXSW include:

- Bend’s [EllisLab](http://ellislab.com/ "EllisLab"), makers of [ExpressionEngine](http://expressionengine.com/ "ExpressionEngine"), who will be [sneak-peeking, hosting, labbing, and a heck of a lot more](http://camp.ellislab.com/ "EllisLab at SXSW") down there.
- Portland’s [CDBaby](http://cdbaby.com/ "CDBaby")
- Portland’s [eROI](http://eroi.com "eROI")
- Portland’s [ISITE Design](http://isitedesign.com "ISITE Design"). [James Keller](http://twitter.com/semaphoria "James Keller") will be down there.
- Portland’s [Vidoop](http://vidoop.com "Vidoop"), who will be soliciting [feedback and starting conversations on Data Portability](http://kveton.com/blog/2008/03/04/sxsw-bound-lets-talk/ "SXSW Bound? Let's talk") and a variety of other pursuits. [Scott Kveton](http://twitter.com/kveton "Scott Kveton") and [Luke Sontag](http://twitter.com/sontag "Luke Sontag") will be in attendance.

As far as individuals headed down that way, I know of:

- [Dave Allen](http://twitter.com/pampelmoose "Dave Allen") from [Pampelmoose](http://www.pampelmoose.com "Pampelmoose")
- [Josh Bancroft](http://twitter.com/jabancroft "Josh Bancroft") from [Intel](http://intel.com "Intel")
- [Matt Beck](http://twitter.com/mattbeck "Matt Beck") from [CouldBe Studios](http://couldbestudios.com "CouldBe Studios")
- [Adam DuVander](http://twitter.com/adamd "Adam DuVander") from [Portland Web Innovators](http://pdxwi.com "Portland Web Innovators")
- [Dawn Foster](http://twiiter.com/geekygirldawn "Dawn Foster") from [Jive Software](http://jivesoftware.com "Jive Software")
- [Marshall Kirkpatrick](http://twitter.com/marshallk "Marshall Kirkpatrick") from [ReadWrite Web](http://readwriteweb.com "Read Write Web")
- [Toby Lucich](http://twitter.com/tlucich "Toby Lucich ") from [Return](http://returncorp.com "Return")
- [Sean O’Brien](http://twitter.com/seanobrien "Sean O'Brien") from [Western Pulp](http://westernpulp.com "Western Pulp")
- [Hal Newton](http://www.linkedin.com/in/halnewton "Hal Newton") from [Planar](http://planar.com/ "Planar")
- [Schlockstar](http://twitter.com/schlockstar "Schlockstar") from [Stumptown Confidential](http://stumptownconfidential.com/ "Stumptown Confidential")
- [Lev Tsypin](http://twitter.com/loubabe "Lev Tsypin") from [Level OS](http://www.levelos.com/ "Levelos")
- [Alex Williams](http://twitter.com/podcasthotel "Alex Williams") from [Iterasi](http://iterasi.com "Iterasi")

This list is by no means complete. Just what I know.

I mean, there are also a ton of Portland people from the creative industry headed down to SXSW. I lost count of the number of [Wieden + Kennedy](http://wk.com "Wieden + Kennedy") folks making the trip.

So, again, if you’re going down to Austin and you’d like people to know, post to the comments and I’ll continue to update this post.

And for all of you back home in Oregon, please stay tuned to SIlicon Florist for updates on the Silicon Forest contingent and their participation in SXSW. Or [feel free to follow me on Twitter](http://twitter.com/turoczy "Rick Turoczy on Twitter"). There are sure to be some cool things happening.
