# JanRain RPX: A login buffet of OpenID, Facebook Connect, Google Friend Connect, and MySpaceID

First [SplashCast](http://splashcast.net "SplashCast") announces that they’re [partnering with Hulu](http://siliconflorist.com/2008/12/10/splashcast-channels-hulu/ "SplashCast channels Hulu"). And now [JanRain](http://janrain.com "JanRain") has [announced](http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/janrain_rpx_distributed_social_interscope_geffen_am.php "JanRain offers login solution") that their RPX solution—a product that makes managing the ever-growing variety of distributed login credentials easier for developers and users—is going to be helping [Interscope](http://www.interscope.com/) [Geffen](http://www.geffen.com/) [A&M](http://site.amoctone.com/), a division [Universal Music Group](http://umusic.com/), give fans an easier way to connect with their favorite artists.

Using the RPX interface, fans who’d like to connect with say, [Lady Gaga](http://www.ladygaga.com/blog/ "Lady Gaga"), have the option of using their [Facebook](http://facebook.com "Facebook") identity, [Google](http://google.com) identity, [MySpace](http://myspace.com "MySpace") identity, or any variety of [OpenID](http://openid.net "OpenID") flavors, like [AOL](http://aol.com "AOL"), [Yahoo!](http://yahoo.com "Yahoo"), or Portland’s [MyOpenID](http://myopenid.com "MyOpenID") or [myVidoop](http://myvidoop.com "MyVidoop").

Where did all of these options come from all of the sudden? Well…

> It’s been quite the month for the world of [distributed social networking](http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/distributed_social_networking.php). Both [Facebook Connect](http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/facebook_connect_vs_open_id.php) and [Google Friend Connect](http://www.google.com/friendconnect/) – two services designed to help user manage a single profile across multiple sites – launched on the same day. Then, MySpace followed in close succession with their [MySpaceID](http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/myspaceid_myspace_sides_with_t.php) offering, another distributed social option built on the Open Stack. In a matter of days, the distributed social space went from nascent to completely confusing.

JanRain is hoping to make it a little less confusing, for both developers and users. And if they have to work with big-time music types—like [50 Cent](http://www.interscope.com/artist/default.aspx?aid=392 "50 Cent"), [Fergie](http://www.interscope.com/fergie "Fergie"), and [Guns n’ Roses](http://www.interscope.com/gunsnroses "Guns n Roses")—to get that done, so be it.
