# OpenID Foundation: Portland people remain in leadership roles

Many of you know that in addition to serving as an [OpenID](http://openid.com "OpenID") proponent, a critical part of the [Vidoop](http://vidoop.com "Vidoop") team, and a devout bacon—and [bacn](http://bacn.com "Bacn")—geek, [Scott Kveton](http://twitter.com/kveton "Scott Kveton") has also served as the chair of the [OpenID Foundation](http://openid.net/foundation "OpenID Foundation").

Today, the [Foundation announced its new officers](http://openid.net/2009/01/28/paypal-joins-openid-foundation-board-as-we-enter-2009/ "OpenID Foundation announces officers"). And while Kveton has moved into the role of vice-chair, I’m happy to report that Brian Kissell of Portland-based [JanRain](http://janrain.com "JanRain") has been elected chair of the organization.

It’s great to see Portland—the [de facto hub of OpenID development](http://siliconflorist.com/2008/06/20/email-to-id-my-openid-is-an-email-address/ "Portland is the de facto hub of OpenID")—continuing to have a noted presence in the Foundation and its efforts.

In other news, a little company called [PayPal](http://paypal.com "PayPal")—which is owned by another little company called [eBay](http://ebay.com "eBay")—became a [sustaining member of the OpenID Foundation](http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/paypal_joins_openid_foundation.php "PayPal Joins OpenID Foundation"). But neither of them are from the Silicon Forest, so that’s secondary news.
