# Portland Development Commission Hosting Lunch 2.0 May 19

I’m exited to announce that the [Portland Development Commission](http://www.pdc.us/) (@[pdxdevelopment](http://twitter.com/pdxdevelopment)) will be our host for Lunch 2.0 on May 19.

Granted, I’m always excited about announcing Lunch 2.0s, but this one will be another event that commingles our beloved tech community with other Portland communities, like [March’s Lunch 2.0](http://siliconflorist.com/2010/03/11/lots-faces-lunch-20/) was.

Plus, how great is it to have the City recognize that geeks matter?

In the wake of last night’s #[pdxboom](http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23pdxboom) mystery, I’m guessing the City will be chomping at the bit to tap into our community’s talent. After all, [Reid’s](http://reidbeels.com/) (@[reidab](http://twitter.com/reidab)) [Google Map](http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&ll=45.52451,-122.641926&spn=0.032833,0.077162&z=14&msid=105810967145978747791.000482e8231e3af9d5624) [helped](http://twitter.com/TheSquare/status/11267838245) the police narrow down the location and solve the mystery. Good on ya, Reid.

So, it seems obvious to me why the PDC would want to invite us over for lunch, but don’t just take me word for it, here’s what Gerald Baugh, Business & Industry Manager at the PDC had to say:

> *As part of the Economic Development Strategy PDC is developing an Entrepreneurial Program. This is in response to comments on the strategy and outreach efforts in the Software Industry. Getting connected with Lunch 2.0 is a shift in program emphasis for PDC and we welcome the opportunity to host this event.*

Interested now? This will also be a great chance to find out more about your tax dollars at work, i.e. what the PDC does, specifically with its Business Services arm.

I’m always looking for hosts, so if you’re interested or know someone who might be interested in hosting a Lunch 2.0, drop a comment, hit me up on Twitter (@[jkuramot](http://twitter.com/jkuramot)), or find me at a Lunch 2.0, if you want to chat IRL.

Want to know what’s involved? Check out the how-to [primer](http://siliconflorist.com/2009/09/14/2009/09/04/2009/08/15/2009/07/30/2009/06/27/2009/05/24/2009/05/24/2009/05/11/2008/11/11/how-to-lunch-20/).

Big thanks to all the hosts who have hosted or plan to host Lunch 2.0. As with the majority of the tech events in Portland, sponsors make them happen. So, we humbly thank you.
