# Barley, hops, and Google Fiber: Beer and Blog Portland offers Google wooing nectar Gigabit IPA tonight

Let’s say—hypothetically—that there’s the search engine for finding stuff on the Internet. For the sake of argument, let’s call it “[Google](http://google.com "Google").” Now let’s say that that search engine wants to bring a big super fast Internet connection to some lucky city. And I mean fast. Gigabit fast. Let’s just call it “[Google Fiber](http://www.portlandheartsgoogle.com/ "Portland hearts Google").”

What would you do to woo that Google Fiber group and make them think kindly of you? Well, if you’re Portland, Oregon, you brew a special beer. Duh. And then you call it [Gigabit IPA](http://blog.taplister.com/2010/03/30/google-beer-gigabit-ipa-debuts-in-portland-oregon/ "Google Gigabit IPA").

> What happens when you combine a passionate Portland, Oregon technology community, Google and Hopworks? You get Gigabit IPA. Described by Hopwork’s Brewer Ben Love, “this fresh & edgy IPA honors Portland’s new gigabit network project pioneering a connected future with Google fiber-to-home. Embrace the bandwidth with a massive NW hop aroma, with rich citrus and pine accents aggressively balanced with clear malt caramel flavor, and a deep, clean, satisfying finish. From Hopworks, the world’s first carbon-neutral artisnal brewery.”

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So Google gets the beer. But what about the rest of us? Especially as we eagerly await the announcement as to whether we get our super fat Internet pipe or not.

Whoa whoa whoa. What’s with all of this hostility? Buck up there camper. You get it too.

That’s right. Tonight, [Gigabit IPA will be on tap](http://blog.oregonlive.com/siliconforest/2010/03/hopworks_launches_gigabit_ipa.html "Hopworks launches Gigabit IPA") at the [Green Dragon](http://pdxgreendragon.com "Green Dragon") for [Beer and Blog](http://portland.beerandblog.com "Beer and Blog").

So head on over to the Green Dragon to slake your thirst with [a tasty IPA](http://www.portlandheartsgoogle.com/community-support/gigabit-ipa "Gigabit IPA"). And maybe, just maybe, spin a few tales about what you would do if [Google chose to run a gigabit connection to Portland](http://www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi/ "Google Fiber"). Or commend [Bram Pitoyo](http://twitter.com/brampitoyo "Bram Pitoyo") on the logo for the brew.
