# Portland Code Camp and SQL Saturday: Two free Portland tech events that taste great together

\[HTML2\]Now, we’ve already chatted about the [upcoming Portland tech events that you can pay to attend this summer](http://siliconflorist.com/2010/04/23/summer-filling-calendar-big-portland-tech-events/ "I know what you did this summer: Filling your calendar with big Portland tech events"). But what about the free events? I mean, Portland is the home of the best Camp Camp Campity Camp community in the world, isn’t it? Well, isn’t it?

Whoa whoa whoa. What’s with all the hostility? There, there. Settle down. We’ve got a camp for you in [Portland Code Camp](http://portlandcodecamp.org/ "Portland Code Camp"). But that’s not all. Oh no. That is not all. We’ve also got [SQL Saturday](http://www.sqlsaturday.com/27/eventhome.aspx "SQL Saturday"). And when you combine the two? You’ve got [Developer Saturday](http://portlandcodecamp.org/2010/DevSat/Index "Developer Saturday")—all on May 22.

> Portland CodeCamp has traditionally been an event where software developers working with the Microsoft stack of development tools could attend sessions and network amongst their peers.… A hallmark of Code Camp is that we encourage presenters to keep their presentations within the realm of code; a few sessions may have such informative value that they will be permitted without code.

> SQL Saturday started as an event where SQL DBAs and developers could attend sessions, network, and expand their knowledge of the SQL data environment. SQL Saturday Portland is encouraging presentations related to interoperability of any of the SQL platforms, including T-SQL (SQL Server), PL/SQL, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.

And according to [Stuart Celarier](http://siliconflorist.com/2010/04/23/summer-filling-calendar-big-portland-tech-events/comment-page-1/#comment-12924 "Stuart Celarier"), “Both events feature community-driven sessions from any platform, any vendor, any language. Over 90 sessions have already been proposed for the combined events, with more being submitted daily. Over a dozen different local user groups and organizations are community sponsors for the event.”
