# Breaking out of your shell: Webtrends 101 offers an incubator space for Portland digital marketing startups

\[HTML2\]As more and more Portland types begin to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams, there has become a need for locations where small teams can work side by side—without it taking a great deal of investment to make it happen. To support this growing market, we’ve seen reasonably priced office space like the [Leftbank Project](http://leftbankproject.com/ "Leftbank Project") and [Olympic Mills](http://www.olympicmill.com/ "Olympic Mills"), coworking locations like [NedSpace](http://nedspace.com "NedSpace") and [Souk](http://soukllc.com/ "Souk"), and hybrid workspaces like the [Portland Incubator Experiment (PIE)](http://piepdx.com "Portland Incubator Experiment (PIE)").

Now, [Webtrends](http://webtrends.com "Webtrends") is doing its part to help small businesses launch by offering up an incubator of its own—[Webtrends 101](http://101.webtrends.com/ "Webtrends 101"), a space designed specifically for fledgling Portland digital marketing companies.

The startup incubator is looking for companies of 2-5 people who are interested in trading consulting time for workspace. Residents will get all the office basics—desks, phones, meeting rooms, and the like—as well as some perks for being part of the Webtrends extended family. What kinds of perks? Well things like access to the Webtrends platform, invitations to Webtrends events, and the opportunity to collaborate with others in the incubator—currently [Fight](http://fightpdx.com/ "Fight"), [Switchyard](http://www.switchyardcreative.com/ "Switchyard"), and Marketing Intelligence.

What does Webtrends get out of it? Hopefully a (pun intended) hot bed of innovative thinking from young nimble companies. And some consultation that can help Webtrends and its customers move faster, farther. Or as [Mike Rogoway wrote in a post about Webtrends 101](http://blog.oregonlive.com/siliconforest/2010/06/webtrends_sponsors_new_digital.html "Webtrends sponsors new digital marketing incubator"):

> In return, Webtrends hopes to collaborate with them on projects and will be required to spend “a handful of hours each month” assisting on Webtrends projects. (Some business incubators ask for equity in the companies they host. Webtrends will not, according to Kaykas-Wolff.)

So why call it “Webtrends 101”? Well, it could easily be interpreted as a nod to getting started. But the Webtrends folks also shared a little bit of trivial knowledge you might not know. Turns out [101 degrees is just about the perfect temperature for incubating chicken eggs](http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_temperature_do_you_need_to_incubate_chicken_eggs "What temperature do you need to incubate chicken eggs?"). Incubator. Get it? Of course you do.

Sound interesting? [Webtrends 101 is currently accepting applications](http://101.webtrends.com/ "Apply to Webtrends 101"). So if you’re a young and fiesty digital marketing agency or service, I seriously encourage you to throw your egg into the incubator.

It will be really interesting to see what hatches.
