# One of these Portland CivicApps is not like the other. It’s the best of the bunch.

Well, well, well. It’s that time again. Time to recognize hard work and geekery. The time when all of the [CivicApps](http://www.civicapps.org/ "CivicApps") stand up to see which one is deemed the best and brightest of the Portland CivicApps competition, a contest where developers try to [build interesting applications using open municipal data sets provided by the City of Portland](http://siliconflorist.com/2010/04/20/open-data-civicapps-101-datasets-data-geeking-portland-oregon/ "Portland, open data, and CivicApps: 101 open datasets for your geeking pleasure").

You remember the [CivicApps competition](http://www.civicapps.org/contribute "Contribute to CivicApps"), don’t you? Of course you do. And tonight at [NedSpace Downtown](http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=920+Southwest+3rd+Avenue,+Portland,+OR&sll=45.460044,-122.767768&sspn=0.008458,0.01914&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=920+SW+3rd+Ave,+Portland,+Multnomah,+Oregon+97204&t=h&z=16 "NedSpace Downtown"), a number of these apps are going to be recognized as part of the [CivicApps Awards Ceremony](http://civicappsawards.eventbrite.com/ "CivicApps Awards Ceremony").

> Join CivicApps, Microsoft and the Software Association of Oregon at NedSpace Downtown to network, socialize, and publicly honor the best app entries for the first round of apps development. The evening will culminate in the “Best of Show” award, recognizing the top app among the “blue ribbon” award winning apps for Most Useful, Most Appealing, Most Original, Best Use of Data and Civic Choice apps.

The event begins at 5:30 PM, this evening (July 20), and is free to attend. Hors d’oeuvres, beverages, and a no-host bar will be available. And word around the campfire is that there will be free beer from local brewers [HUB](http://www.hopworksbeer.com/ "Hopworks Urban Brewery") and [Widmer](http://www.widmer.com "Widmer").

Rumor also has it that [Portland Mayor Sam Adams](http://twitter.com/MAYORSAMADAMS "Portland Mayor Sam Adams") and [Tim O’Reilly](http://twitter.com/timoreilly "Tim O'Reilly")—who happens to be in town throwing a little open source shindig called [OSCON](http://www.oscon.com/oscon2010 "OSCON")—will be in attendance.

Oh. So now you’re interested. I see how you are.
