# It’s official. OSCON 2011 will be held in Portland, the unofficial hub of open source.

\[HTML1\]After being a sure thing for so many years, [OSCON](http://en.oreilly.com/oscon "OSCON"), the premier open source conference in the world, [stepped away from Portland in 2009](http://siliconflorist.com/2008/09/10/oscon-gone/ "OSCON? Gone.").

Now, now, now. Dry those little tears. They came back. [OSCON 2010 was held right here in Portland](http://siliconflorist.com/2009/10/23/oscon-2010-portland-oregon-july-1923/ "OSCON 2010").

But now, we always kind of have to wonder: will they or won’t they? Will they pick us again? Or will they choose another location?

Well, I’m happy to report that they will. [OSCON 2011 is officially back in Portland, July 25-29, 2011, according to Gina Blaber, O’Reilly’s VP of Conferences](http://twitter.com/ginablaber/status/25308531886 "OSCON 2011 back in Portland").

OSCON 2011 will be back in Portland, Oregon July 25-29, 2011. CFP opens in December [\#oscon](http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23oscon) [\#opensource](http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23opensource)[Thu Sep 23 13:50:26 ](http://twitter.com/ginablaber/status/25308531886 "Thu Sep 23 13:50:26 ") via [Seesmic twhirl](http://www.twhirl.org)[![](https://i0.wp.com/a3.twimg.com/profile_images/456877639/Gina-ichat_normal.jpg?w=925)](http://twitter.com/ginablaber)**[ginablaber](http://twitter.com/ginablaber)**

First [Linus becomes an US citizen](http://siliconflorist.com/2010/09/14/linus-torvalds-portland-open-source-guru-us-citizen/ "Linus Torvalds becomes a US citizen") and now this.

And with all of the [municipal open data](http://siliconflorist.com/2009/09/30/portland-oregon-open-city-officially-embracing-open-data-open-source/ "Portland, Oregon, joins the ranks of the open cities, officially embracing open data and open source") and [CivicApps activity here around Portland](http://siliconflorist.com/2010/09/23/city-portland-civicapps-portland-ten-host-lunch-20-october-20/ "The City of Portland, CivicApps and Portland Ten to Host Lunch 2.0 October 20"), it could be a very very interesting summer for the Rose City in 2011.

Welcome back, OSCON. We’re glad you decided to stay.
