# Startup Weekend Portland crams founders, builders, and promoters into a 54-hour entrepreneurial hotbox once again

So there you are. You’ve got a killer startup idea but you’re having a hard time finding someone to help build it. Or maybe you’ve got no ideas but you’re itching to build something. Maybe you just want to help someone realize his or her dream.

Well get those entrepreneurial juices flowing, my friend. Because it’s getting near [Startup Weekend](http://startupweekend.org "Startup Weekend") time again. That’s right.[ Startup Weekend Portland](http://portland.startupweekend.org/) is being held November 12th through the 14th at [NedSpace Old Town](http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=embed&hl=en&geocode=&q=117+NW+5th+Ave+Suite+210+Portland,+OR+97209&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=117+NW+5th+Ave,+Portland,+Multnomah,+Oregon+97209&ll=45.525472,-122.675829&spn=0.035839,0.076561&z=14&iwloc=A "NedSpace Old Town").

What’s a Startup Weekend, you ask? Well, it’s a hybrid unconference of sorts—with some formalized schedule—designed to help people with ideas collaborate with people who can help them bring those ideas to fruition. The hope is to form the makings for a viable sustainable startup within 54 hours.

> Startup Weekend is an intense 54 hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. The weekend brings together people with different skillsets – primarily software developers, graphics designers and business people – to build applications and develop a commercial case around them.

What’s more, the organization just got a [grant from the Kauffman Foundation](http://startupweekend.org/2010/09/29/kauffman/ "Kauffman Foundation Partners with Startup Weekend to Help Educate Entrepreneurs") to help them with their efforts to educate would be entrepreneurs.

Around here. Startup Weekend has already made a mark on the startup scene. Startup Weekend Portland’s most noteworthy alumni include [Mugasha](http://mugasha.com "Mugasha"), a site for sharing, promoting, and organizing DJ sets, and [CPUsage](http://cpusage.com/ "CPUsage"), a company focused on making use of idle computer time for enhanced processing—which also made the cut for the [Bend Venture Conference](http://siliconflorist.com/2010/09/29/bend-venture-conference-tech-startups-activetrak-cpusage-logicbox-manzama-streamit-web-blox-vie-venture-funding/ "Bend Venture Conference: Tech startups ActiveTrak, CPUsage, LogicBox, Manzama, StreamIt, and Web Blox vie for venture funding"), this year.

This time around, the event is being managed by [Michael Coates](http://twitter.com/#!/pushyourbusines "Michael Coates") of [PUSH Business Consultants](http://pushyourbusiness.com/ "PUSH Business Consultants") and [Thubten Comerford](http://twitter.com/#!/thubten "Thubten Comerford") of [Social Potency](http://socialpotency.com/ "Social Potency"). They’ll be running the show and [rounding up interesting speakers](http://portland.startupweekend.org/speakers/ "Startup Weekend Portland speakers") to give the attendees some food for thought. All while helping folks form a bunch of companies over a weekend.
