# There’s a whole bunch of Portland magic in that little Amazon Gold Box on your iPhone

Yesterday, you might have heard that that little bookstore to the north of us released [an iPhone app for Amazon Deals](http://techcrunch.com/2011/01/11/amazon-promotes-gold-box-daily-deals-with-new-iphone-app/ "Amazon Promotes Gold Box Daily Deals With New iPhone App"). What you may not know is that—de facto hub of mobile development that it is—Portland played a role in bringing that iPhone app to fruition.

That’s right. [Bringing the magic of the Amazon Gold Box to the iPhone was none other than Portland iPhone agency Small Society](http://blog.smallsociety.com/post/2698949544/amazon "Announcing the Amazon Deals App!").

Now, Small Society is no stranger to working with big brands. They’ve worked with names like [Starbucks](http://siliconflorist.com/2009/09/24/starbucks-iphone-mystarbucks-portland-small-society-coffee-app/ "Portland’s Small Society builds an iPhone app for a little coffee shop called Starbucks") and [Zipcar](http://siliconflorist.com/2009/06/08/portland-small-society-plays-big-role-zipcar-iphone-app/ "Portland’s Small Society plays big role in Zipcar iPhone app") and the [Democratic Party](http://siliconflorist.com/2010/06/24/kicking-ass-portland-small-society-urban-airship-democratic-national-committee-iphone-ipad-app/ "Kicking ass: Portland’s Small Society and Urban Airship help bring Democratic National Committee iPhone/iPad app to life"). But this app, held a special challenge.

You see—unlike some of their other big brand clients—this app challenged Small Society to take on a company with an exemplary Web experience and to translate that experience to the iPhone.

> The goal was to take the Amazon.com Gold Box to the mobile space, and to ensure that deal hunters would never miss a thing, regardless of where they were….

> The app provides all of the great information that makes Amazon.com such a great shopping experience, including access to Amazon.com Customer Ratings and Reviews, as well as the clean and simple checkout experience customers have come to know and trust.

How did they do? Take a look. You might even feel the urge to take advantage of today’s deal. And stuff.

The [Amazon Deals app is free and available from the App Store](http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amazon-deals/id404217731?mt%3D8 "Amazon Deals in the App Store").
