# MetaFilter is awesome and a dozen years old. Find out how that happened.

Without a doubt, one of the most amazing sites on the Web has to be [MetaFilter](http://metafilter.com "MetaFilter"). And I’m not just saying that [because of the Portland connection](http://a.wholelottanothing.org/ "Matt Haughey"). I’m saying that because it was one of the very first “Weblogs,” making it the grandaddy of everything you read here. And for every comment you read here—because they were one of the first sites with comments. I’d also argue that [AskMetfilter](http://ask.metafilter.com/ "AskMetfilter") is still more amazing than Quora…

But I digress.

Anyway, turns out that [Matt Haughey](http://twitter.com/#!/MATHOWIE "Matt Haughey"), founder of MetaFilter, spoke at [SXSW](http://sxsw.com "sxsw") again this year. But for some odd reason, he wound up in a location far away from the Austin Convention Center. Well, their loss is your gain, because he’s recorded his whole talk for you—and for anyone else who may have missed it.

Once you’re done listening, do yourself a favor and head over to [MetaFilter](http://metafilter.com "MetaFilter").
