# Portland, the city that hacks: PDX-OSGEO, Japan Crisis Camp, and PDX11 civic hackathons, Friday and Saturday

If there’s one thing I love about the City of Portland, it’s the startups. If there’s another thing I love about Portland, it’s the beer. But another thing I like about Portland? It will never pass up an opportunity to get a bunch of folks in the room to hack on stuff. And this weekend is no different.

On April 1 and 2, there are two big hackathons taking place, the [PDX-OSGEO / Japan Crisis Camp hackathon](http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Pdx#Unconference_March_31st_and_April_1st.2C_2011 "PDX-OSGEO / Japan Crisis Camp hackathon") on Friday and the [PDX11 civic hackathon](http://pdx11.org/node/2919#hackathon "PDX11") on Saturday.

First, Friday, beginning at 11 AM at Backspace.

> A continuation of the Open Source GIS Unconference on Tuesday. GIS developers can come and do some coding or write documentation for whatever projects they dream up. Meanwhile, we will also be hosting a Crisis Camp where anyone can come and help update a map of Japan in the wake of the Sendai disaster. We will provide training to anyone who is new to Open Street Map editing.

Then, Saturday, the PDX11 civic hackathon held at Portland State University Engineering Building beginning at 9 AM.

> This hackathon is dedicated to civic projects that folks in the Portland area would like to work on together. The OS GIS group is also planning to invade and participate!

> Participation is open to all. Feel free to add your project below, and link to a repo. A short list of projects, bugs to fix or tasks that you’d like to work on would also be helpful.

For a full list of potential projects—or to add your own—visit the [civic hackathon etherpad page](http://etherpad.opensourcebridge.org/pdx11hackathon-april2 "Civic hackathon etherpad").
