# Mayor for a day: Join Whiffies and all your mayoral peers Saturday April 16 for Foursquare Day Portland 2011

Thanks to the efforts of an early entrant in the location app space, [Shizzow](http://siliconflorist.com/?s=shizzow "Shizzow"), Portland was all primed and ready to fall in love with [Foursquare](http://foursquare.com "Foursquare")—and begin donning mayors, left and right.

Our love of check ins is all well and good. But let’s be honest—[even though Portland Mayor Sam Adams made it official](http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=215239331835615&set=a.116169965075886.17309.113639958662220&type=1&theater "Portland Mayor Sam Adams proclaims Foursquare Day")—[Portland isn’t the only place that loves Foursquare](http://www.mikebloomberg.com/index.cfm?objectid=54A11A3B-C29C-7CA2-FBDE24CA2C8B4E66 "April 16 Declared @Foursquare Day in NYC"). So around the world on April 16, people will be celebrating [Foursquare Day](http://4sqday.com/ "Foursquare Day"). Get it? 4/16? Four squared?
