# Rose City ‘Til you Die (RCTID)? Meridian makes sure that death won’t be from the lack of chants, beverages, or facilities

The Northwest Major League Soccer fans, they love their technology and their startups. It’s something [John Cook of Geekwire in Seattle](http://www.geekwire.com/2011/rewind-comparing-portland-seattle-tech-startup-scenes "Comparing Portland and Seattle tech startup scenes") has mentioned a number of times with regards to the Sounders fans. And the [Timbers Army](http://timbersarmy.org/ "Timbers Army")? They’re no different.

In fact, the [Portland Timbers](http://www.portlandtimbers.com/ "Portland Timbers") are so techie, they offer not [one](http://siliconflorist.com/2011/04/07/chance-wield-axe-portland-timbers-photo-play-timbers-iphone-game/ "Miss your chance to wield an axe in a Portland Timbers photo? Play in a Timbers game instead"), but two mobile apps now. And the latest instantiation—the [Timbers’ JELD-WEN Field in Meridian](http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/7/prweb8677460.htm "Portland Timbers Offer Free Meridian Mobile App to Visitors of JELD-WEN Field ")—offers a ton of interesting and useful information.

> While many places once settled for apps that merely offered their visitors a mobile friendly version of their web sites, the Portland Timbers team knows that their tech-savvy supporters demand more. Unlike more static mobile apps, Meridian engages users and provides them information that’s relevant to wherever they are in a location. And, because Meridian is a platform, the Portland Timbers staff can make changes to the app in seconds with Meridian’s content management system, Meridian Editor.

Relevant information like “What the hell are they saying in that chant?”, “Where can I get more microbrew?”, and “I’ve had too much microbrew… where the hell are the restrooms?”

“Portland Timbers supporters are big users of their smart phones so we needed a partner like Meridian to build the unique functionality for this app,” said Cory Dolich, Portland Timbers’ VP of business operations and marketing. “What’s more, Meridian’s content management system will make updating the app much easier and economical than alternative approaches.”

And that’s not all. Meridian now offers the Timbers turn-by-turn directions on [Android phones](https://market.android.com/details?id=meridian.app "Meridian Android") as well as [iOS devices](http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/meridian/id404946736?mt=8 "Meridian iOS").

Ooh. Mobile and open source-y. How Portland.

Well what are you waiting for? A free scarf? You should get to downloading your Meridian app before the game on Saturday.

Oh. Well okay. Maybe we’ll try to find you a free scarf too. Download it anyway.
