# This was three years ago, Portland

I just returned from [Portland mayoral candidate Eileen Brady addressing Portland startups and tech entrepreneurs](http://siliconflorist.com/2011/12/14/political-meet-portland-entrepreneurs-endorse-eileen-brady-mayor/ "Getting political: Meet the Portland entrepreneurs who endorse Eileen Brady for mayor"). Whenever folks start championing Portland’s potential for business, I can’t help but be reminded of [Chris Logan](http://twitter.com/chrislogan "Chris Logan")‘s [Ignite Portland](http://igniteportland.org "Ignite Portland") presentation.

(Chris was supposed to talk today, but true to his entrepreneurial genes, he had an opportunity for his startup that prevented him from attending.)

This was three years ago. Three. Years. Ago. Like more than one thousand days ago. Or 25,000 hours or so. And while several of the things Chris champions have come to pass, we’ve still got a lot to do.

Take a look. And let’s keep making this stuff happen.

Oh and speaking of Ignite Portland… they’re [accepting proposals for Ignite Portland 10](http://igniteportland.org/2011/12/02/ignite-portland-10-coming-in-february-submit-your-talks-now/ "Ignite Portland 10 coming in February! Submit your talks now!") currently. So if you can tell a story like Chris can, I’d highly suggest throwing your hat into the ring. [Applications are due December 30, 2011](http://proposals.igniteportland.org/events/10/proposals "Apply for Ignite Portland").
