# File under irony: Portland startups Cloudability and AppFog get noticed at Under the Radar

It seems more than appropriate that the often overlooked Portland startup scene would have a big presence at a conference called [Under the Radar](http://www.undertheradarblog.com/ "Under the Radar").

Portland’s [Puppet Labs](http://puppetlabs.com "Puppet Labs") was the big favorite in 2010. And this year? Two Portland companies stole the show, [Cloudability](http://cloudability.com "Cloudability") and [AppFog](http://appfog.com "AppFog").

Cloudability—a service that helps companies manage their spending on Cloud resources—[walked away the big winner](http://mountainview.patch.com/articles/tech-innovation-showcase-attracts-300-decision-makers "Tech Innovation Showcase Attracts 300 Decision Makers"), satisfying both the judges and the audience:

> Cloudability, cloud expenditure aggregator, also rocked the cloud services segment winning both the judges’ choice and audience choice awards. The company compiles all cloud costs into comprehensive reports to help clients understand and manage costs, reduce waste, and identify opportunities for cost savings.

“We’re thrilled that Portland companies came away with 4 out of 5 awards against a field of nearly 40 of the best companies the Valley could throw at us,” said [Mat Ellis](http://twitter.com/matellis "Mat Ellis"), CEO of Cloudability.

AppFog—a platform as a service (PaaS) that allows developers to easily deploy applications in the Cloud—[won the people’s choice award](http://www.marketwatch.com/story/appfog-named-winner-at-under-the-radar-2012-04-27 "AppFog Named Winner at Under The Radar"):
