# Portland startups gain international acclaim: Urban Airship wins big at CTIA

When it comes to the wireless industry, [CTIA](http://www.ctia.org/ "CTIA") is one of the biggest shows. And a local Portland company was just recognized as one of the most promising new technologies.

[Urban Airship](http://urbanairship.com "Urban Airship") has been named the [“Best Emerging Mobile Marketing & Advertising Solution” at CTIA](http://www.ctia.org/media/press/body.cfm/prid/2186 "International CTIA Wireless 2012 Announces CTIA E-Tech Awards Winners").

> Online judging for the 15 awards categories was conducted by a panel of media and industry analysts. Nearly 250 entries were judged based on innovation, functionality, technological importance, implementation and overall “wow” factor.

“We’re extremely pleased to take the top spot in a burgeoning and highly competitive category at one of the wireless industry’s biggest shows,” said Scott Kveton, CEO and co-founder, Urban Airship [in a press release](http://www.prweb.com/releases/2012/5/prweb9500153.htm "Urban Airship Wins Best Emerging Mobile Marketing & Advertising Solution at CTIA"). “Push notifications extend the functionality of apps to the home screen of smartphones and it’s clear the market is charged about the potential of good push to drive greater engagement.”
