# Is that a FlatLight in your pocket or are you just unhappy to see me?

It’s crazy how minuscule technology is getting these days. And how the smaller-and-smaller hardware form factors are enabling people to rethink common tools.

Take the [FlatLight](http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/488871743/flatlight "FlatLight"), a Kickstarter campaign from Portland’s [Tater Tot Designs](http://tatertotdesigns.com/product/flatlight/ "Tater Tot Designs").

> The FlatLight, the first in the WorleyLightWorx family of products, is an ultra-thin, super bright, fiber optic light. Powered by two replaceable coin cell batteries, the FlatLight illuminates the way for up to 10 hours of continuous use. The flat surfaces and backlit logo of the FlatLight are perfect for graphic customization. FlatLight is perfect for a purse or pocket, glove box or toolbox.

It’s pretty cool. Seemingly useful—especially during the winter months around here. And it’s teetering on the edge of being funded.

Mark my words, 2013 is going to be the year of the hardware renaissance around these parts.
