The weather may be nice this weekend. But quite honestly, you’ve got a higher calling. It’s the National Day of Civic Hacking, a day when a bunch of different communities band together to use their hacking powers for good. And being the type of hacker town it is, Portland has its own gathering.
Interested in helping to improve our urban areas and even define the city of the future? You have the opportunity to participate in this grand challenge during the second annual National Day of Civic Hacking, a nation-wide event in collaboration with the White House and federal agencies and sponsored by Intel Corporation that brings people together to solve problems in their communities. As part of this event, Portland’s hackathon will focus on better planning of urban areas. Our goal is to imagine new models of innovation, community, and economic development and build them into the development of Zidell Yards on Portland’s south waterfront as a living laboratory to curate tools and ideas for all developing cities. With 33 acres of waterfront property, there is no other city with such a greenfield opportunity to reinvent community development for innovation as a model for other urban areas. Whether you are a community leader, coder, designer, or entrepreneur, you are invited to join us and contribute to the development of tools and ideas to achieve this goal. There are many ways to participate.
The event kicks off this evening at Epicodus and continues throughout the weekend at Zidell Yards.
