# Keeping the dream of the 90s alive in Portland: RCRDBOX hearkens back to the music clubs of yesteryear

The box business model. Take a box. Shove some delightful thematically related stuff in it. And send it to subscribers once a month. There are any number of flavors of this sort of thing. But there’s still a ton of opportunity in the market. And Portland’s [RCRDBOX](https://rcrdbox.com/ "RCRDBOX") is looking to carve out its own little part of that market.

> We remember the days of going to the record store, flipping through the shelves for something cheap and interesting. Most of us don’t have record stores around anymore. We’ve got huge streaming libraries now, but 20 million songs doesn’t mean jack if you keep listening to the same ones over and over. So we’re bringing discovery back, by grabbing some interesting albums and shoving them in your face every month. Maybe you’ll like them, maybe you won’t, but at least they’ll be something different.

For around $25 a month, you could be getting awesome curated CDs or LPs in the mail. And they promise that you’ll never get duplicates. Best of all, you get to keep them all. So no worries about having to explain that Milli Vanilli cassette you’ve never been able to unload.

And by “you” I mean “I.” I swear I just forgot to send it back. Damn you, Columbia House.

Now all you have to do is find some sort of device that accepts those odd spinning disc formats.
