# Moving beyond typical tech talks: Portland Startup Week explores a variety of startups and discussions

It’s getting close now. Just a few days and we’ll soon be basking in [Portland Startup Week](http://portland.startupweek.co/ "Portland Startup Week"), more than a week of interesting events focused on startups and entrepreneurs. But it’s designed to be a week for anyone and everyone. That’s why you’ll notice some of the programming and participants stepping beyond typical tech homogeneity.

Now granted, there are still some great geeky events. I mean, there are [three](http://sched.co/2H82 "Sports Hack Day") [different](http://sched.co/2H9i "Where are your wearables") [hacks](http://sched.co/2Gz5 "Little Oregon Laboratory") going during the event. But there are also some gatherings that look at the startup scene with a different lens.

For example:

- Our coding school community is coming out in force with [PDX Code Guild](http://sched.co/2HnJ "DX Code Guild"), [Code Fellows](http://sched.co/2GyY "Code Fellows"), [Epicodus](http://sched.co/2HEh "Epicodus"), and [Portland Code School](http://sched.co/2HpF "Portland Code School") all hosting events. (One of which is rumored to have mimosas.)
- There are two talks focused on women in the tech scene, [one at QuickLeft](http://sched.co/2Gyc "Deconstructing Women in the Tech scene") and one at the [eBay Community Lounge](http://sched.co/2Gz6 "Women in Tech: Getting into tech without a technical degree").
- Forge is hosting a talk [for the outdoor apparel startup community](http://sched.co/2I42 "Outdoor Apparel Startups").
- The City of Portland and the Portland Development Commission are [inviting folks to visit their early stage incubator, Startup PDX Challenge](http://sched.co/2HQo "Startup PDX Challenge open house"). Which includes a variety of startups from communities of color.
- Workout Wednesday has [invited folks to a yoga session](http://sched.co/2GyV "Workout Wednesday Yoga").
- [Makerspace ADX](http://sched.co/2I5i "ADX open house") is hosting an open house.
- There’s a piece of interactive art called [Dungeon Hacker](http://sched.co/2Hkv "Dungeon Hacker") at Diode Gallery.
- There’s a panel on [what’s happening in the Oregon startup scene outside of the Portland](http://sched.co/2HJE "Startup Week is every week").
- Workroom is providing [two](http://sched.co/2HUO "Workfrom Wednesday") [opportunities](http://sched.co/2HAQ "Workfrom Workathon") for Portland startup types to coworker with one another.
- There’s even [a major food event](http://sched.co/2Hi4 "FoodWorx").

And we’re revealing and adding new events as we get closer and closer. So make sure to [keep an eye on the schedule](http://portland.startupweek.co/ "Portland Startup Week"). Or follow [@PDXStartupWeek on Twitter](http://twitter.com/pdxstartupweek "@PDXStartupWeek on Twitter").
