# Acquired in a jiffy: Animated gif app Nutmeg acquired by Giphy

Well that was fast. Almost as fast as an animated gif. Regardless of how you pronounce it. [Nutmeg](http://www.thisisnutmeg.com/ "Nutmeg"), an alum of [PIE](http://piepdx.com "PIE") class of 2014, has been acquired by the leading presence in animated gifs, [Giphy](http://giphy.com/ "Giphy"), which had recently raised $17 million. This marks the first PIE accelerator alum to be acquired. To date, only members of the PIE coworking space had been acquired—with [Geoloqi](http://geoloqi.com "Geoloqi"), [Glider](http://glider.com "Glider"), and [Paleo Plan](http://paleoplan.com "Paleo Plan"), and [Simple](http://simple.com "Simple") being the most prominent acquisitions.

> Nutmeg is one of the only beautiful, functional mobile apps to bring the GIF to SMS (though more are certainly coming). And it would make sense for Giphy to try and build something compatible with iMessage. But Giphy is looking far beyond any one platform or device.

> “We want bring gifs, as a language, to every device, every platform, and every conversation,” said Logan.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
