Front-end developer? Mozilla wants to help you View Source

Back when I built Web pages on the Internet, we didn’t have all of your fancy newfangled javascripts and style sheets and frameworks and whatnot. We used transparent spacer gifs and we liked it. And tables. Oh my. I could go on and on about tables. And when we wanted to see how something was done, all we had to do was view source and copy it. That’s just how it was.

Well, thankfully, those days are now distant history. And the Web is way, way better. But that desire to reveal how people are building the Web—and help others make awesome experiences—remains. That’s why Mozilla is working to make modern development just as transparent as it once was, with the View Source conference.

View Source is a single track conference for front-end web developers. The goal is to provide an in-depth, practical look at current and on-the-horizon technologies, with plenty of opportunities for conversation.

Web developers used to learn how to create on the web by seeing a great website and simply using “view source” to get the code. Today, it’s harder to do that; the libraries and development practices are often hidden from the browser. At View Source, we will share best practices for improving how websites are built across platforms and devices, with technical talks exposing best practices and practical development techniques. By exploring what is and is not working on the web of today, we can view the source of the modern web and pave the way for the web of tomorrow.

Because we feel that community interactions and conversations encourage innovation – and make things more fun – we’ll have plenty of opportunities for both focused and impromptu discussions throughout the event.

Sound cool? Good, you should go. The event will be held November 2-4, 2015, at the Gerding Theater at the Armory in the Pearl. Students can attend for $25. Regular registration is $250.

But guess what? The View Source folks are cutting Silicon Florist readers a deal. Why? Well, a) Because you’re awesome. And b) Because you had to read my silly reminiscing about how we used to build the Web. So now that makes all of that pain worth it, doesn’t it? Well okay. Maybe note. But it helps.

Register with this discount code and you can purchase tickets for 80% off. That’s right. Just $49 for your ticket. But you have to hurry. There’s a limited supply.
