Game on: PIGSquad is officially a 501(c)3 nonprofit

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times. Portland is a great town for mission driven startups. Maybe that’s why we’re home to more nonprofits per capita that any city in the US. But we can always use more—especially when they’re focused on new industries and startups. That’s why I’m happy to share that PIGSquad, the Portland Indie Game Squad, is officially among the nonprofits around here.

Hey everyone, huge announcement – I started the Portland Indie Game Squad 5 years, 5 months, and 11 days ago… and yesterday we finally received our 501(c)3 official nonprofit letter of determination!

This opens up so much for the nonprofit, including allowing tax deductible donations (that includes what you give on patreon.com/PIGSquad), greater sponsorship opportunities, and easier access to new services. The Portland game developer community has been growing and moving in all kinds of positive directions so quickly, and this marks a huge milestone for supporting the amazing creators we’ve been so lucky to meet in our own city.

It’s been a long time coming. And this is a really big step forward. Not only because it helps the organization further its goals of helping indie gamers, but because it helps the entire indie game community, as a whole.
