# Open all the sources: Like open source software? Bet you'd love open source hardware

Even though there’s less focus on it than previous years, Portland is—and remains—the de facto hub of open source activity. It’s just something in our blood. So it only stands to reason that—as more things become open—Portland would be a great spot for those open pursuits to congregate. Take for example [Open Hardware Summit](http://2016.oshwa.org/ "Open Hardware Summit").

Who’s behind the summit? The [Open Source Hardware Association](http://www.oshwa.org/ "Open Source Hardware Association").

> The Open Source Hardware Association aims to be the voice of the open hardware community, ensuring that technological knowledge is accessible to everyone, and encouraging the collaborative development of technology that serves education, environmental sustainability, and human welfare.

Sounds like folks who would be cool to hang out with, right? Well good news, gentle reader: You can. The Open Hardware Summit will be taking place in Portland on October 7, 2016. Tickets are available at a variety of levels—most at less than $100. Ticket costs include all day coffee and food. Plus awesome swag.
