# A new kind of backpack: Pacmodo

It only stands to reason that a region with a rich and storied history of thinking about backpacks — [JanSport](https://jansport.com/) and [Dakine](https://www.dakine.com/) immediately jump to mind — would be home to a modern-day, innovative rethinking of the backpack. [PitchBlack](https://www.pitchblackpdx.com/)-alum [Pacmodo](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pacmodo/pacmodo-the-backpack-reimagined) is doing just that by rethinking the way we use — and ideally reuse now — the common backpack.

 > The Pacmodo backpack is designed to be modular so it can grow or shrink based on a person’s needs. There is a component with the straps that can zip onto three different sized packs. Each piece can be replaced and used components are meant to be refurbished and resold, [cofounder and Nike-alum David Ngene told Portland Business Journal](https://www.bizjournals.com/portland/inno/stories/news/2024/08/29/ex-nike-execs-launch-pacmodo-on-kickstarter.html?utm_source=st&utm_medium=en&utm_campaign=inno&ana=e_n&utm_content=po).

At the time of this writing, the project is basically funded. So if you’re interested in grabbing a new backpack that’s able to change and transform depending on your needs, you’ll want to kick in for a discounted pack.

Best of all? Once you’ve set the straps, you’re set for life. Or am I the only one who takes months, if not years, to get the straps on my packs just so?
