# Portland startup StrateSea buoyed by NATO DIANA 2026 Challenge Program

I always enjoy highlighting all of the awesome startups in the Portland startup community. But it makes me even happier when those startups get recognition outside of our ecosystem. Which is exactly what happened last week when Portland startup [StrateSea](https://www.stratesea.com/) was selected for the [NATO DIANA 2026 Challenge Program](https://www.diana.nato.int/about-diana/2026-cohort-of-companies.html).

What made StrateSea a compelling candidate…?

> Our mission is to enable fast, transparent intelligence across the ocean domain: empowering operators, analysts, and mission teams with the visibility and decision advantage required to protect critical infrastructure, strengthen national security, and build a resilient maritime future.

“DIANA’s mission is to find the most innovative companies, help them advance their solutions and grow their business, and get the technologies we need into the hands of NATO operators. Over the next year, these innovators will accelerate breakthrough technologies that can help to transform how the Alliance defends against current and emerging threats,” [said James Appathurai, Interim Managing Director of NATO DIANA](https://www.diana.nato.int/connect/nato-diana-announces-largestever-cohort-150-innovators-selected-across-ten-challenge-areas-for-2026-challenge-programme.html).
