# REMINDER: Bend Venture Conference applications are due August 13, 2026

While everyone clearly knows that [Portland was built upon an ancient unicorn burial ground](https://portland.daveknows.org/2012/03/17/st-unicorns-day-2012/), few people realize that the “P” in “Portland” actually stands for “procrastination.” But “Procrastinationortland” was too long for print at the time.
