# Portland ER doc launches Experitas, an AI-assisted medical-legal review startup

Fun fact: I started my startup journey in digital healthcare. So I’ll always have a soft spot for healthcare startups. Because the entire US system is a mess. That’s why I was happy to hear that Dr. Andy Barnett — a Portland ER doc who has spent years as a medical malpractice expert witness — has a new startup designed to solve a piece of the entire mess. Meet [Experitas](https://experitas.com/).

> In as little as 2.33 business days, you receive a concise medical expert opinion: executive summary, case chronology, and a standard of care analysis reviewed and signed off by a practicing, U.S. board-certified physician. The same physician is available to retain if the case moves forward.
>
> Our platform processes full case records: thousands of pages, mixed file types, HIPAA-compliant. General AI tools fail at this. Experitas doesn’t.

The startup aims to connect law firms with vetted medical experts who can evaluate whether a medical malpractice case actually has merit. Experitas leans on a network of more than 250 U.S. board-certified physicians across 60+ specialties, paired with AI, to turn out “fast, defensible merit and IME reports for plaintiff and defense law firms.”

Barnett’s own background — which includes 25 years of clinical practice, eight of them as an expert witness, plus a stint as an Air Force veteran — is the credibility here.

Evaluations cost $495 per case. But the first one is free. No credit card required.
