# While Rapta’s $8M raise is newsworthy, it’s who’s on the cap table that struck me

You may have heard that [Rapta](https://rapta.com/), a Lake Oswego based defense tech startup, [announced that it has closed $8 million](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/rapta-closes-8-million-funding-round-to-scale-ai-powered-quality-assurance-for-defense-and-precision-manufacturing-302881280.html). And while it’s always nice to see local startups gaining access to working capital, it’s even nicer to see that capital coming from local funds. To that end, Voyager Capital co-led the round, and Elevate Capital, Portland Seed Fund, BVC also participated. Voyager also gains a board seat.

According to [Portland Business Journal](https://www.bizjournals.com/portland/news/2026/09/16/rapta-funding-voyager-access-venture.html):

> As part of the round, Voyager Managing Director Diane Fraiman and Access Managing Director Kirk Holland joined Rapta’s board.
> 
> “Diane and Kirk join us at a critical moment in that work, and their experience will help ensure we deliver on our commitment to transform manufacturing in a dramatically changing marketplace,” Rapta CEO Aaron Brown said in a written statement.

So what does Rapta actually do?

> Rapta helps aerospace, defense, space, electronics, advanced manufacturing, and sustainment organizations improve production readiness, quality, traceability, and workforce performance. Its Manufacturing Intelligence Platform delivers real-time guidance, verification, and operational decision support where work happens, helping manufacturers accelerate ramp-rates, expand capacity, standardize expert workforce performance, and generate trusted evidence for qualification, certification, and audit requirements. Rapta deploys on premises within the customer’s existing network, keeping production data on the customer’s infrastructure.

“The biggest hurdle to optimizing manufacturing operations isn’t ambition — it’s proprietary, siloed data architectures that scatter production data across systems,” said Rapta CEO Aaron Brown.

Rapta also highlighted that it’s trusted by half of the U.S. defense primes. So the new funding will go toward accelerating deployment of its platform across defense, aerospace, and other high-precision production.
