Uptick in talk about Trunknode

It’s been a minute since I’ve felt that “Portland startup serendipity.” While it used to be a regular occurence in the before times — where everyone seems to be talking about the exact same startup at the exact same time — it’s become less common in the last few years. But an experience this week has me hoping that maybe it’s on the rebound. And all of that centers around Portland startup Trunknode.

You see, awhile back I stumbled upon some chatter about Trunknode. And then some folks directly mentioned the company to me, here and there. And then at a recent happy hour, the company came up again. And when I sat back down at my desk after that happy hour, an article by Malia Spencer in the Portland Business Journal featured… Trunknode.

So why is everyone talking about it and what does Trunknode do? Well, it’s definitely hitting an AI sweet spot.

Trunknode is focused on simplifying access to AI datasets while enabling secure, cross-organization data collaboration. Unlike competitors, Trunknode offers a comprehensive solution that addresses data privacy, AI dataset licensing, and collaboration at scale, all within one platform. Its approach ensures that organizations can monetize and manage their data legally, avoiding practices like web scraping. Additionally, Trunknode’s focus on sectors like healthcare, academia, and enterprise AI gives it a niche edge, positioning it to serve high-demand, data-sensitive industries with robust security and privacy protections.

The company, founded by Manan Goel, an alum of Absci, Intel, and Nike, is definitely one worth keeping an eye on. And according to the rumor mill — and now the media — they’re raising.
