Oy. It’s impossible to escape the newscycles around Portland, Oregon, right now. And it’s stupid that I even feel compelled to write this post. And yet… if you live here like I do, it’s a lot. Even if you’re trying to ignore it, you’re likely fielding questions from friends and family. It feels very much like 2020, all over again. (And it’s likely actually because of archived footage of 2020, to be honest.) So if you need some stuff to share with folks to highlight what is actually is actually happening in the Rose City, I wanted to give you a few resources.
- First, using Portland startup Graze, I built a “Positively Portland” feed of posts on Bluesky. It isn’t perfect and I’m still working out kinks. (My fault. Not Graze’s.) But it’s a pretty decent and upbeat feed of stories about Stumptown.
- Second, there are any number of Instagram hashtags — like #warravagedportland and #portlandishell — that are sharing Portland reality in addition to the usual #pdx, #portland, and #portlandoregon ones.
- Finally, I know that Faris Mubarak at NedSpace has been working on this for a while. And now was the perfect time to launch it.
Do you have other sources of actual Portland news that I should be tracking and sharing…? Let me know. Always happy to highlight what’s happening here.
