If you’ve been anywhere near Portland as of late, you’ve likely heard about the potential shuttering of multiple schools. Due to dropping enrollment numbers. Salem-Keizer is having similar discussions. And while this whole thing can be heated and uncomfortable, it’s really nice to have the ability to assess the actual data. Which we can. Thanks to Right Size Portland.
The purpose of this tool is to understand the potential outcomes of, and the justifications for, the rightsizing scenarios PPS presented to the school board on October 6, 2026. It maps the closures and receiving schools and compares each scenario with the Status Quo: projected enrollment for every school from 2025-26 to 2035-36, the 2031-32 measures PPS published in its regional summaries, getting to school, busing, staffing, class sizes and costs, alongside private school, homeschool and virtual school data.
