Portland has a long history at being really really good at unconferences and all flavor of camps. But lately, it seems we’ve been working hard to develop a new acumen: curated weeks of activity. We’ve got Startup Week, Maker Week, Coworking Week… all designed to bring likeminded folks together. And now, we’ve got Resolution Fest, another awesome week focused on helping us rethink the tech community.
Resolution Fest is a week-long celebration of the people and communities reimagining the landscape of the tech industry. Over 8 days, we’ll examine the intersections of technology, identity, culture, community service, education, social change, collaboration, creativity, and more.
Events include:
AlterConf Portland (October 1)
AlterConf is a traveling conference series that provides safe opportunities for marginalized people and those who support them in the tech and gaming industries. By highlighting the powerful voices and positive initiatives of local community members, we build hope and strengthen the community’s resolve to create safer, healthier spaces for everyone.
PyDX 2016 (October 1-2)
Python PDX is a Pythonicly specific space focusing on ideas, projects, and best practices in need of more attention in an inclusive and welcoming environment. Join your friends in the Cascadia Python community for two days of learning and connection.
Women Who Code Portland Networking Night (October 3)
Join us for a night of lightning talks (shorter tech talks) from New Relic’s brilliant women engineers/developers.
Stumptown Syndicate presents: It’s Documentary (October 4)
The Syndicate will be showcasing two local films. Chris Higgins will present a 20-min rough cut of Access, a documentary that examines the accessibility of websites and apps today. There will also be a Q&A following. Our main feature will be the 2015 award-winning documentary Arresting Power: Resisting Police Violence in Portland, from Jodi Darby, Julie Perini, and Erin Yanke. Arresting Power is an important film about the history of conflict between the Portland police and community members throughout the past fifty years and runs 84 minutes long.
Feminist Zine Pop-up Shop (October 6)
The Recompiler and Microcosm Publishing are taking their zines to a brick and mortar near you. Come by for an afternoon of shopping and zine-making: you can bring the ideas and we’ll have the supplies!
Stumptown Syndicate presents: Sparkle Pony Hacker Lounge (October 6)
Every year, Open Source Bridge hosts a Hacker Lounge where folks come to chat, collaborate, and make things. This fall, Stumptown Syndicate (the nonprofit parent organization behind Bridge) is bringing the Hacker Lounge to the public, with DIY button-making, legos, and more!
Affect Conf (October 7-8)
Affect is a new event at the intersection of social change and systemic design. It’s a conference with a dash of volunteering and a place to come together and share real talk about the efforts behind our work.
Resolution Fest Closing Party (October 8)
We’ll be wrapping up and saying goodbye to our week-long festival with a party! Beardo Games will be onsite to demo their upcoming game, Motokata: a motorcycle duel or die contest where you can go head-on against your opponent in a character-rich 80s wasteland. We’ll also have mobile art truck Outlier Gallery onsite and Seattle artist Joan Chao available to sketch your portrait!
