I’ll spare you the irony of Techstars leaving Seattle because there isn’t enough venture activity there, only to have a former Techstars Seattle Managing Director and Techstars investment manager standing up a new VC fund. But I did want to share that — soon — Portland founders may have another resource for getting access to early stage capital. Meet Two Ravens.
There’s a class of tech founders who have all the attributes that make a great early-stage team: they’re brilliant, they have huge vision and drive to succeed, they can build, and they can sell. But, because they don’t fit traditional founder stereotypes, or lack the obvious pedigree stamps on their passports, or simply because they live outside of the major US venture metros, they’re often overlooked by conventional VCs.
Enter Two Ravens. We love investing in extraordinary, non-obvious founders.
Two Ravens is led by Isaac Kato and Carson Nye, both former Techstars folks.
According to GeekWire:
A SEC filing from December shows that Two Ravens was raising a $20 million fund.
Kato declined to comment when contacted by GeekWire.
The firm says it typically invests between $250,000-to-$500,000 in each company and it leads, co-leads, or invests in follow-on rounds.
Two Ravens joins a growing list of venture firms aiming to invest in underrepresented founders.
As always, it’s great to have resources in Seattle looking to support early stage startup founders. Our ecosystem has long relied on support — especially in the form of capital — flowing from our neighbors to the north.
