People always ask me about startups that have spun out of Intel. Found one.

I get this question all of the time. But it’s a bit of a rarity, these days. What’s that…? Oh. Interesting companies being spun out of Intel. In fact, the last one I can remember off the top of my head was AppThwack. But I just found another one. So I wanted to let you know. Meet AheadComputing. (Not a typo. It’s old school concatenated camel case.)

AheadComputing was founded by engineers with over 80 years of experience delivering some of the most popular microprocessors in the world.

AheadComputing is dedicated to designing, verifying, and licensing compelling RISC-V core IP.

According to ee news, it’s composed of four former Intel folks:

  • CEO Debbie Marr, who was Intel Fellow and chief architect of the Advanced Architecture Development Group and gained 33 years’ experience with the company.
  • Microprocessor architect Jonathan Pearce, who rose to the position of Principal Engineer and CPU Architect during 22 years at Intel.
  • Architect Srikanth Srinivasan, who most recently led the frontend and backend CPU teams at the AADG.
  • Microprocessor architect Mark Dechene, who was an Intel Principal Engineer and CPU Architect in the AADG, where he led the memory execution architecture team. Dechene spent 16 years at Intel.

And of course, anytime I hear the mention of RISC architecture…
