[Updated] A random smattering of tech events just exploded across the September calendar

Might be back to school. Might just be pent up energy and a desire to congregate. Whatever the case, September suddenly feels busy. Like there’s some energy in the community. And — dare I say — the early underpinnings of some momentum…? It’s too soon to tell. But if you’re interested in connecting with folks from the community, here are some upcoming options to do so.

  • AI Portland Happy Hour (Sep 26) Join AI Portland for a relaxed evening of conversation and connection at our September Happy Hour! This is the perfect opportunity to unwind and mingle with fellow AI enthusiasts and professionals in the heart of downtown Portland. Share your experiences, discuss the latest AI trends, or simply enjoy the company of like-minded individuals.
  • AI Portland Science Fair (Sep 19) Getting into the back-to-school spirit, we’ll be holding our first-ever AI Science Fair, an exciting event organized by AI Portland. Modeled after middle school science fairs, this event provides an interactive platform for AI enthusiasts to showcase their projects and engage in insightful discussions.
  • AWS Cloud Happy Hour (Sep 18) This is a no-programming networking social event for AWS Users to mingle and talk about all things cloud. Meet with your fellow cloud folks to discuss cloud security, cloud opportunities, cloud best practices, tips, tricks, and battle stories.
  • Beer and Blog (Sep 20) With WordCamp US 2024 — which is being held in Portland, this year — coming to a conclusion on Friday, September 20, 2024, it seemed like an opportune time to bask in a little nostalgia and gather for another Beer and Blog. Just for old time’s sake.
  • Demolicious (Sep 19) You will be given 3 minutes to pitch at the event. The audience will be given a number to text and vote for their favorite one. The one with the most votes will go home with the Demolicious Championship belt.
  • founder.coffee (Sep 24) As a business owner, you are faced with many challenges. You’re forced to make decisions every day that could make or break your business. founder.coffee is a way to network with other entrepreneurs to allow free-flowing information with the intent to collaborate and help each other.
  • Hardware Happy Hour Portland (Sep 17) At Hardware Happy Hour Portland we welcome anyone interested in any kind of hardware from beginner to expert: Arduino DIYers, engineers, hardware start up founders, e-textile experimenters, LED-curious folks, 3D printing enthusiasts or robotics geeks.
  • Pacific Northwest Music Tech Meetup (Sep 26) Free for music tech execs, founders, innovators, investors, veterans, movers, shakers, & crazy pants.
  • PIGSquad & Autodesk Game Showcase (Sep 19) The Portland Indie Game Squad & Autodesk are collaborating to share locally made games with you, or help you share your games with others! Hang out, play games, and meet the people making them.
  • Rose City Techies Tech Startups Panel AMA (Sep 24) Join us — and I literally mean “us” because I’m the moderator — for an inspiring evening with local startups in an “ask me anything”-style tech panel at Kiln. If you’re an a tech worker, startup owner, aspiring entrepreneur, or just curious about the Portland startup scene, this event is for you!
  • StartupGrind Early Stage Fireside Chat (Sep 17) Our first StartupGrind event for PDX in a long time will focus on Early-stage startups, with discussion with founders who built successful products and bootstrapped through the pre-seed stage. Rescheduled! Stay tuned.

  • WordCamp US 2024 (Sep 17-20) WordCamp US is the premiere North American event for web professionals.   • BONUS: 4K4Community Fun Run (Sep 25) The 4 km (2.49 mi) running and walking event raises funds for local nonprofits with programs that advance diversity, equity, and inclusion within their areas of focus.
