Portland startup DeepSurface has been acquired

I know, I know. You started reading “DeepS…” and you’re like “I thought he wasn’t talking about DeepSeek…?” Well, I’m still not talking about DeepSeek. I’m talking about Portland startup DeepSurface. Which was acquired by AttackIQ.

According to GeekWire:

Portland cybersecurity startup DeepSurface was acquired this week by AttackIQ, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based company that helps customers evaluate security risks.

AttackIQ specializes in Adversarial Exposure Validation (AEV) solutions — a cybersecurity framework that continuously emulates real-world cyberattacks to test and validate an organization’s security posture.

Founded in 2017, DeepSurface was led by CEO James Dirksen, who previously sold RuleSpace to Symantec and was an executive at Formaltech, and CTO Tim Morgan, a longtime security consultant.

“Security teams are inundated with exposure noise all while the frequency and severity of bad actors is increasing exponentially. The need to generate true risk insights from security data has never been more apparent,” said Carl Wright, Chief Commercial Officer at AttackIQ. “With AEV, we provide organizations with a proactive, intelligence-driven approach to identify and mitigate exposures before they can be exploited. This enables security teams to shift from reactive security to a continuously validated, threat-informed defense strategy.”

Trivial fact time. Because you know I love the trivial facts. This marks the third exit in 2025 for Voyager Capital. Act-On and Lytics being the other two.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
