What are the pros and cons of building a tech startup in Oregon?

This is more of the type of content I would love to see. Founders taking the time to discuss not only the positive aspects of the Oregon startup ecosystem but also the areas that need improvement. Because we need to get that sort of feedback if we’re going to continue to improve our community for all founders. Thanks so much to Michael Ulin, cofounder and CTO of Paxton, for capturing this list of Oregon startup ecosystem pros and cons.

Starting a company in Oregon gives you the chance to build something meaningful without getting lost in the noise. While it’s true that non-SV startups may face initial skepticism, the supportive community, lower cost of living, and proximity to world-class talent and investors offer real advantages. If you can blend the best of Silicon Valley connections with Oregon’s collaborative ecosystem, you’ll find yourself in a powerful position to innovate and stand out.
