Portland Digital Corps ramps up

You may remember me sharing news about the formation of the Portland Digital Corps. At the time, it was largely conceptual and a website. Now, it’s much much more — from a steering committee to projects underway.

What a turnout tonight! Over 65 folks joined us for our first in-person meetup! We'll do another in a few weeks that'll focus on projects.

If you’re interested in getting involved, there are a number of ways:

But that’s not all…

One other idea I’ve been kicking around is not project-based at all, but developing resilient patterns online like the 18F Methods, but scaled to local communities. The other thing is many people want to learn from our model — in real time – and it could be worthwhile to start aggregating a document in real time that others can learn from, as they consider rolling their own local short-term Digital Corps sprint.

They’ve also kicked off a few projects, including:

  • Built Oregon
  • Cape Perpetua Collaborative
  • Families for Safe Streets

Interested in joining…? Feel free to volunteer.

Portland Digital Corps is a short-term, volunteer-driven effort connecting technologists with public-interest digital projects in the Portland area. Whether you’re between roles, want to build your portfolio, or just want to help out, we’d love to hear from you.
