Vibes DIY chats with sibling with zero coding experience who enhanced communication with special needs brother

Portland startup Vibes DIY is very much in the “vibe coding” space. Which to some may seem unserious.

But as it turns out, vibe coding is enabling folks to build real tools to solve real problems. Even though they don’t have any coding experience.

Ari had zero programming experience when his brother Ben – who has a rare neurological condition and can only communicate through head movements – needed better assistive technology than what medical companies offered. So he turned to AI and built something incredible. The result? Software that not only works better than existing solutions, but actually unlocked communication Ben hadn’t expressed in years. For the first time since he could speak, Ben is asking questions like “what’s the weather?” and “can we go for a walk?”
