From Wikipedian to Wiki curious: Attend Portland Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

From Wikipedian to Wiki curious: Attend Portland Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

If you’re like most people, you get an awful lot of value out of Wikipedia. But have you ever wondered what it takes to get more involved in the community of Wikipedians?

Well, whether you’re a regular contributor or just Wiki curious, you’ve got an opportunity to do some hacking this Saturday during the Portland Wikipedia Edit-a-thon.

Join us and the Portland wiki community as we dive into editing the biggest, most fascinating, and most collaborative encyclopedia in human history. This informal event will help you get your bearings, create an account, and start hacking in this decade-old project.

Never edited a web page? Never fear! We will give you a background/overview of how things work, and suggest some easy first-timer edits. Or, if you’re an old hand, please join us and share your valuable knowledge!

The event will be held this Saturday at PIE and will run from 11AM – 6PM ish.

For more information or to RSVP, see the Wikipedia page about the Portland Edit-a-thon.

And don’t forget that there’s also the Code for America “Reboot Democracy” hackathon, this Sunday.
